The DfE requested that the Rodillian Multi Academy Trust went into support the EACT Purston Academy in March 2014. The school had been placed in Special Measures, it had no substantive Headteacher and was in danger of closure. Support was quickly put in place with a Headteacher from the Trust and a significant number of teachers. The turnaround was swift. The Academy officially became part of the Trust in September 2014 and came out of Special Measures with an Outstanding judgment for leadership in March 2015. The results in 2015 saw a significant increase, the headline score of 5 A*-C with English and Maths increasing from 34% to 65%. The increase in performance has remained consistent and this was recognised in The Featherstone Academy’s next inspection in February 2017 which saw the Academy rated as Good with Outstanding behaviour. The Academy has maintained the Ofsted grading in the most recent inspection of April 2022. Student numbers have increased during the period of the Trust sponsorship to the point where the Academy has been asked by the local authority to increase its Pupil Admission Number (PAN), further securing the sustainability of the Academy.
