Local Review Board
I would like to welcome you to The Featherstone Academy and its Local Review Board (“LRB”). It is a 11-16 secondary academy which is rated Good by Ofsted.
The LRB is formed from co-opted members who have skills which aids the Governance of the Academy, Parents and members of staff. The purpose of the LRB is to provide oversight, challenge and support of the Academy including reviewing the Academy’s progress against its improvement plan, student attainment and how it engages with students, parents, staff and the wider community.
The LRB formally meets at least 6 times in the academic year and considers Academy standards, the quality of provision, admissions and exclusions, financial and premises management of the Academy including Health & Safety and the use of ICT.
As part of evaluating the academic provision provided, the LRB considers academy targets and performance, leadership and outcome and the Academy’s Curriculum.
In addition to its formal meetings, LRB members come into the Academy and speak with staff and students about their perception of the Academy, meet with Ofsted when they come into the Academy and sit on exclusion and complaints panels.

Sarah Sunderland - Chair
I am passionate about personal development and growth, and supporting good outcomes for people has been a focus in my career. Having two teenagers and seeing the challenges that young people face in developing safely in line with their potential, I'm keen to get involved and bring my skills to an educational setting.
I'm a Chartered FCIPD and senior HR professional with deep experience in leading teams and driving strategic change across a range of sectors. Over the years, I've developed strengths in organisational development and delivering people-focused initiatives in both large and growing organisations. My previous governance experience includes working as a charity trustee at Fareshare Yorkshire for 9 years, including operating as Chair for 3 years.
Jackie Bavester - LRB Member
Jackie holds a degree in Housing and the Built Environment, and a postgraduate degree in Strategic Management. With over 20 years of experience in social housing, she currently serves as the Head of Governance and Risk Management at a social housing provider in Lancashire.
Throughout her career, Jackie has worked closely with members of the local community and has been pivotal in shaping housing services for residents in the Wakefield area.
Jackie lives in Ackworth and enjoys socialising with friends and family, particularly watching her grandsons playing for local rugby teams.
Sharron Booth - Parent LRB Member
Sharron is an Advanced Teaching Assistant and SEMH (“Social, Emotional, and Mental Health”) Specialist, as well as a licenced Thrive Practitioner at Outwood Academy Freeston in Normanton. Living locally, Sharron brings both personal insight and professional dedication to her role, working closely with students who find mainstream education challenging.
Sharron is currently working towards a Foundation Degree in Social and Wellbeing, with the ambition of leading her own SEMH department. Passionate about student welfare, she is committed to creating supportive, understanding environments where young people can thrive emotionally and academically.
Outside of work, Sharron enjoys reading, socialising, and spending quality time with her children. She prides herself on her strong communication skills and will always seek to understand the motivations and emotions behind a young person’s action.
Lee Nicklin-Chahal - LRB Member
Lee has over a decade of experience in the education sector and is currently an Area Manager for a national education staffing and training provider. In this role, he leads multiple teams and works closely with schools to support recruitment, retention, and workforce development.
Prior to this, Lee worked in the care sector as a Deputy Manager within a learning disability service supporting adults with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), and as a support worker for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Lee brings expertise in safeguarding, staff development, performance and people management, to have a strong focus on improving outcomes for children and young people.
